Talking Trash and Talking Treasure

Prosperity BazaarEvery Thursday I explore the treasures of the Marketplace and Mines, and organize and appreciate all the treasures I give and receive in the Treasure Cave. I call it Treasure Caving in the Prosperity Bazaar. Weekly money practice keeps me awake and alert to all the good things materializing in my life and world. And you can Treasure Cave too!

Treasure I’m trading in the Treasure Bazaar  I’ve been noticing that I am trading way more $ treasure for the treasure of dining out lately. Part of it is my work. I meet with people over meals to discuss creative projects. Just yesterday I gathered with Diane at Lark’s for lunch to discuss Art NOW and when we were going to start NOWing. And the day before that it was lunch with my gardening friends at Thai Pepper. And then a late night wifi escapade to talk web design, also over Thai food.

Then there is the usual grocery buying and potlucking that happens when I go out. I question whether or not other cities have the same potlucking ratio to nonfood events as Ashland. I go to potlucks about 2 times a week on average. And of course the idea behind potlucks is a sound one that we are sharing in the meal making and eating. But it tends to be a feasty kind of meal. So it is more food than usual, I have yet to go to a potluck juice feast for instance.

Basically what I am saying is there is too much of my treasure being spent on food these days (yes very rambling and long winded journey to come to this point.) When I come up against these budget-ish sticking points I often hear myself say it’s only money, which I love saying. But there is something else here to say. Can this only money be better spent on something other than daily feasting? Yeah, it can. There are gifts to give and things to create with some of this money. Right now it sort of feels like I am throwing my money away a little bit.  And besides, I’m wishing to go on my quick-before-spring-is-over spring time cleanse. Today I have breakfast with a friend to talk money stuff, and then Crystal is coming over to talk Money and Life fundraising at lunch time and then I have a coffee shop meeting for SART. Arrgh. Must. Stop. Meeting. Around. Food!

Things I’m mining in the Prosperity Mines. And any new veins of treasure? Well the conversation with Crystal will be an interesting one; putting together aKickstarter campaign for Katie’s film. These kinds of things remind me that in the very early beta days of Kickstarter sweet little Plan-it You was accepted as a project. I lost my partner as I was crafting my ask and it kind of knocked the stuffing out of me and I never did launch my campaign. Maybe it is time to revisit Kickstarter. Well, it is, since I’ll be helping put one together for Katie. And it might just inspire me to do something similar for myself. As I remember I had lots of great loot to give away as prizes.

My Treasure Cave action. This is my counting-sorting-investing-organizing and filling out my Treasure Ledger to remind myself of what a great money adventure I am having and how truly grateful I am for all the good things in my life. Getting to blabbity blab about all these things in this blog is up high on the list. I love the gift of today. All the opportunities I had to talk about money and life with all kinds of amazing people. Today was a very prosperous day. Just the way I like my Thursdays to be.
